Rivian Announces First R2 SUV Deliveries on June 9

Rivian has finally revealed that the first customers of their new R2 SUV will start receiving their vehicles on June 9. After spending months preparing for the launch, the company is excited to unveil a vehicle that's both cost-effective and aimed at a broader market than their current R1 lineup.

The R2 SUV will initially be available in a trim starting just under $60,000. However, Rivian has plans to release a 'standard' version priced at $48,490 by 2027. The company is also working on an even more affordable version that's expected to start around $45,000 late next year—a price point they've been promoting since the R2 reveal in 2024.

Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe views this as a pivotal moment for the company. He stated, 'Maybe the most important thing we’ve launched to date.' The automaker is banking on an incredibly fast ramp-up, with potential deliveries of up to 25,000 vehicles by the end of the year.

With these ambitious goals in mind, Rivian hopes that the R2 and its hatchback sibling, the R3, will finally enable them to turn a profit since their founding back in 2009. As more customers eagerly await their new electric SUVs, let’s dive into what makes this model so significant for Rivian's future.
