The layoffs have impacted service and customer teams, including sales and marketing departments.
Rivian’s financial challenges have been well-documented; the company has accumulated losses totaling around $30 billion up to this point. Originally aiming for profitability in 2027, Rivian pushed back its goal due to increased spending on autonomous vehicle technology development. The latest news comes alongside a significant partnership with Uber, which plans to invest up to $1.25 billion and purchase as many as 50,000 R2 SUVs for use as robotaxis.
