Revolutionizing Restaurant Discovery
A new startup aims to reinvent the way people discover their next favorite place to dine with its cutting-edge app, Zest. This personalized dining recommendation tool combines transaction data and advanced AI to make sure you find your perfect meal.
The Birth of Zest
Founded in November 2024, Zest has already attracted over 100,000 visits post-launch. It got its start with a combination of friends and family testing before expanding to larger groups. The app uses your credit card data through Plaid (trusted by banks and fintech apps) to track where you dine and drink.
How Zest Works
To use Zest, simply link your credit card, which imports all your dining transactions into the app. As the AI learns about your preferences, it starts suggesting new places based on your regular spots. You can also follow friends or creator-curated profiles for more diverse recommendations.
Real-World Data Meets Personalization
The key to Zest’s success lies in its real-world data approach. Unlike other apps that rely solely on social sharing, Zest uses transactional insights to understand your dining habits better over time. This means the app is more about uncovering hidden gems and regular haunts rather than just showcasing high-end spots.
Beyond Restaurants
With its current success in restaurant discovery, Zest plans to expand into other city hotspots like shopping areas. The co-founder, Mario Gomez-Hall, explains that Zest’s focus is on curation and finding unique places that aren’t just about social posturing but real, everyday dining experiences.
Future Features
This month, Zest introduces a new feature allowing users to add freeform notes about their favorite spots. The app also plans to launch a 'Fresh Picks' feature similar to Spotify’s Discovery Weekly, offering new restaurant recommendations based on your location and interests.
