Flutterwave Hits $3.2B Valuation: Ripple’s Equity Boosts African Payments Infrastructure

African payments infrastructure powerhouse Flutterwave has just hit a massive milestone with its Series E funding round, now valued at an impressive $3.2 billion. This notable achievement includes a significant equity investment from another major player in the digital finance space: Ripple. While the size of this round wasn't disclosed, it's clear that Flutterwave has been making waves, having raised over $500 million to date.

Ripple’s involvement is part of a broader strategy to help both companies expand their financial services on the African continent. The cross-border payments industry in Africa remains complex due to fragmented banking systems, strict foreign exchange policies, and currency volatility. Transactions often route through European cities like London, causing delays. However, progress is being made with Flutterwave leading the charge.

Earlier this year, Flutterwave acquired the African banking startup Mono to integrate its API technology. This move has been pivotal in helping Africa operate as one market. In October 2025, they took another significant step by partnering with Polygon Labs to introduce stablecoin solutions for businesses. These solutions are designed to bypass traditional banking systems, offering a more stable, faster, and cheaper way to send money.

With Ripple’s investment, Flutterwave gains the infrastructure needed to expand its digital asset offerings. This development is particularly beneficial for Ripple, as it aims to increase its presence in Africa. Flutterwave operates in 35 countries across the continent, making it a key player in reshaping the financial landscape.
