Threads Tests Meta AI Integration: Real-Time Context at Your Fingertips

Threads is making waves with its latest feature: an integration with Meta AI that works similarly to X’s popular Grok. This innovative tool allows users with public accounts to mention @meta.ai in a post or reply, gaining access to real-time context and recommendations about trending topics and breaking stories.

The beta testing phase is currently underway in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore. Meta has stated that the feature aims to help users stay informed by providing them with relevant information and suggestions within their daily conversations on the platform. For example, asking questions such as “Why are people talking about the World Cup this month?”, “Whose Met Gala looks are trending right now?”, or “How are the Knicks doing in the playoffs?” can yield insightful answers from Meta AI.

In response to user queries, Meta AI will generate public replies authored by the @meta.ai account. These responses will be crafted in the same language as the post they address, ensuring a seamless and culturally relevant experience for users worldwide.

Threads is positioning itself not only as a platform for discussing news and trends but also as a source of reliable information and recommendations. This integration aligns with Grok’s role on X, where users often seek clarification or explanations from the AI chatbot.

However, integrating an AI into such prominence comes with its share of risks. In the past, similar AIs have faced issues like generating controversial content, as seen with X’s Grok. Despite these concerns, Meta has implemented robust safeguards to minimize potential problems. Users who wish to reduce their exposure to Meta AI replies can easily mute @meta.ai, use the “Not interested” option on any Meta AI post, or hide a reply that appears directly on their own posts.

Meta is committed to refining this feature based on initial feedback from beta testers before rolling it out more broadly. If you’re keen to explore this new functionality, now’s your chance to be part of the beta testing group in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore!
