When it comes to AI hardware, Plaud stands out as one of the few companies that have truly made a splash. The company, known for its AI-powered notetakers, has sold over 2 million devices, including Plaud Pins and credit-card-styled gadgets that stick on the back of phones. This impressive feat is coupled with an annualized revenue run rate of $100 million from its subscription business.
Plaud's unique approach focuses on providing real-life conversation support, helping professionals recall important points during meetings without relying on screens. Co-founder and CEO Nathan Xu explains, 'Most AI companies scale through software behind a screen. We took a different path. The conversations that actually move things forward don’t happen on a keyboard. We built the interface for the post-screen world, and the market validated it.'
Last year, Plaud launched the $179 Plaud Pro, followed by the new Plaud Pin S this year. In addition to hardware, Plaud has accelerated its software development, introducing a desktop app that can take notes via system audio for online meetings. The company also launched Plaud Teams with shared memory to target enterprises.
Users of Plaud devices receive 300 minutes of transcription for free. However, the free limit is likely to run out quickly for those who attend many meetings daily. For extra minutes and other features, users can opt for monthly, annual, or add-on plans. According to Xu, nearly 50% of device users upgrade from the basic plan to pro or unlimited plans.
Despite its success, Plaud faces stiff competition in the meeting note-taking hardware market, including Anker, Viaim, Vibe, and Pocket. However, their innovative approach and unique value proposition make them a formidable player in this space.
