The company will spend up to €75 billion (approximately $87 billion) over the next decade to expand data center capacity in France, aiming to develop and operate up to 5 gigawatts of additional data center infrastructure.
The initial phase involves constructing data centers in strategic locations such as Dunkirk (Loon-Plage), Bosquel, and Bouchain. These new facilities are expected to deliver a substantial 3.1 gigawatts of capacity to the Hauts-de-France region by 2031. This investment underscores SoftBank's commitment not only to expanding its own data center needs but also to supporting the broader tech ecosystem.
Notably, SoftBank highlights this as its largest AI infrastructure investment in Europe. Given its ongoing investments and partnerships with OpenAI, it seems clear that these new data centers will play a critical role in advancing artificial intelligence technology. The announcement was lauded by French Economic Minister Roland Lescure, who emphasized the importance of France's position in the global AI landscape.

In the United States, for instance, it has announced plans to build a data center in Ohio, powered by a new 9.2 gigawatt natural gas plant.
