Salesforce Buys AI Customer Service Platform Fin for $3.6 Billion

Salesforce made a significant move by acquiring the AI customer service platform, Fin (formerly Intercom), for an impressive $3.6 billion. This strategic acquisition aims to bolster Salesforce's existing enterprise platform with advanced AI capabilities.

Fin has been providing businesses with an innovative AI agent that can handle customer queries across various channels, including live chat, WhatsApp, SMS, phone calls, Slack, and more. CEO Marc Benioff emphasized the importance of Fin’s technology and team in improving Salesforce's Agentforce platform, stating, “Fin brings proven agent technology, a deep commitment to customer success, and an incredible AI team that will complement Agentforce with powerful service agent capabilities.”

According to Eoghan McCabe, co-founder and CEO of Fin, the acquisition will accelerate their groundbreaking initiatives like Apex and Operator. He wrote in an X post, “With the resources of Salesforce this will only accelerate. And yet little will practically change. I’ll still be CEO, Des will still be running R&D, we’ll both still be committed to continuing to lead this category.”

The transaction is anticipated to close by the last quarter of Salesforce’s 2027 fiscal year, which aligns with their financial reporting schedule.
