CEO Job van der Voort, speaking to TechCrunch, shared that he has multiple AI instances running on his laptop, including a Slack agent that summarizes discussions. This widespread adoption of AI is driving efficiency gains across the company. According to van der Voort, Remote’s core payroll business has grown more than 300% year over year, largely attributed to AI.

Remote has implemented an internal marketplace called Remote Labs, where employees can launch apps and experiment with AI technologies. This approach mirrors the company's strategy for its clients, helping them create custom workflows. Van der Voort emphasizes that Remote is ahead of most companies in this regard.

The company has also launched a new interface called Remote MCP, which allows AI agents and external platforms direct access to payroll and compliance data. This move aligns with the rise of agentic AI, where AI can interact directly with software without needing human intervention. Van der Voort envisions a future where users can control Remote using AI assistants like ChatGPT or Claude.

Remote has seen significant changes in its internal operations as well. The company’s engineers have increased their coding contributions by more than 60% over the last year, with AI playing a crucial role. This shift has reduced hiring plans but hasn’t led to job cuts. Van der Voort believes that upskilling existing employees to use AI tools is key.

“This adds a whole new fun angle,” says van der Voort, highlighting how AI has improved his own role within the company. The trajectory of Remote offers valuable insights into how businesses can leverage AI for growth and efficiency without increasing headcount.
