OpenAI Unveils Codex Mobile Integration: Transforming Coding on the Go

OpenAI has taken its cutting-edge coding tool, Codex, to the next level by integrating it directly into the ChatGPT app. This move signifies a significant step towards making real-time coding management accessible from anywhere, at any time.

The integration allows users to see their Codex live environments on multiple devices where it is running. This means developers can now monitor and manage their development workflows remotely, streamlining the process of working across different platforms.

According to OpenAI, this update goes beyond just remote task control; users can work across all threads, review outputs, approve commands, change models, or start something new from their mobile devices. The company announced these changes on Thursday and noted that the preview is currently available for all plans on both iOS and Android.

“This is more than the ability to remotely control a single task or dispatch new tasks to your computer,” OpenAI stated in its announcement. “From your phone, you can work across all of your threads, review outputs, approve commands, change models, or start something new.”

In recent months, OpenAI has been actively expanding Codex's functionality. Last month, the company enabled background operation for Codex on desktop environments, allowing the tool to handle various tasks autonomously without constant user interaction. Additionally, a Chrome extension was introduced earlier this month to facilitate live browser sessions.

It’s worth noting that Anthropic has also been making strides in this space with its Remote Control feature for Claude Code, giving users similar capabilities to monitor and manage coding workflows from their phones or other devices.

The flurry of feature releases from both OpenAI and Anthropic speaks to the intense competition between the two companies. While Anthropic’s Claude Code has gained popularity among businesses and tech professionals over the past year, Codex remains a formidable competitor in this space.
