Nvidia’s AI Investments Reach $40 Billion: A Deep Dive

Nvidia continues to be a powerhouse in the tech world, with impressive financial commitments to the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence (AI). According to CNBC, Nvidia has already invested more than $40 billion in equity deals across AI companies by the early months of 2026. A significant portion of this massive investment comes from a single substantial bet: a whopping $30 billion in OpenAI.

But Nvidia’s commitment to AI goes beyond just one large investment. The chipmaker has also announced several multi-billion dollar deals with other companies. For instance, it recently committed up to $3.2 billion to Corning, the renowned glass manufacturer, and a staggering $2.1 billion to IREN, a data center operator.

Previously, we've highlighted Nvidia’s investments in AI startups, which have included 67 venture deals in 2025 alone. According to FactSet data, Nvidia has been even more active in the first few months of 2026, participating in around two dozen investment rounds for private startups.

One recurring criticism surrounding these investments is that they might be circular deals, moving money back and forth between the same companies. Matthew Bryson from Wedbush Securities has noted that Nvidia’s investments fall “squarely into the circular investment theme,” but suggests that if successful, they could help the company build a ‘competitive moat’.
