With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in music generation, concerns are growing over how AI companies use copyrighted material and potential manipulations within streaming systems. To address this issue, the music streaming service Deezer has launched a free online tool that identifies AI-generated tracks across multiple platforms.
The AI music detector supports 27 languages and covers playlists from 20 of the most popular streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music. Users can access the tool through Deezer’s website by selecting their preferred platform, allowing Deezer to scan their playlists for any AI-generated content.
According to CEO Alexis Lanternier, 'By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use.'
The tool not only identifies AI-generated songs but also offers users the option to share the results with others. Deezer is currently dealing with a significant influx of AI-generated tracks—over 75,000 daily and nearly two million monthly. Despite this, the listening rate for AI-generated music remains low at just 1-3% of total streams, with around 85% flagged as fraudulent and demonetized by the platform.
Deezer’s proactive stance on AI music has positioned it as a key player in the industry. While competitors like Apple Music and Spotify have opted for a tagging approach, Deezer actively removes AI tracks from recommendations and editorial playlists. In addition to its internal efforts, Deezer is also offering its AI detection technology to other platforms.
With this new tool, Deezer aims to enhance transparency and ensure that users are aware of the content they listen to on their favorite streaming services.
