Blue Origin is pushing ahead with plans for another New Glenn rocket launch in 2026, according to CEO Dave Limp. In an update on Monday, Limp revealed that despite last week’s massive explosion during testing at Cape Canaveral, Florida, the company has found more of its infrastructure still intact than initially thought.

The explosion, which occurred at Blue Origin's launchpad, was a significant setback for the company but didn’t damage as much as feared. Limp mentioned that another previously flown New Glenn rocket booster and three upper stages were in good condition, affirming the company’s commitment to recovery. Limp stated confidently, “We will fly again before the end of this year,” adding an aggressive timeline that many observers had not anticipated.

The quick turnaround is remarkable, considering the extensive damage expected from such a significant failure. While Blue Origin was assumed to need at least until 2027 for another launch, Limp’s statement suggests otherwise. This aggressive approach could be attributed to the strategic importance of the New Glenn rocket in NASA's Artemis mission plans.

Blue Origin is currently building a second launchpad at Cape Canaveral, but that project is still in early stages. The company has also not disclosed what caused the explosion, leaving many questions unanswered for now.

Jeff Bezos' spaceflight company had already shifted its focus to supporting NASA’s Artemis missions after pausing tourism flights on the smaller New Shepard rocket for at least two years. The first launch of New Glenn took place in January 2025, marking a significant milestone in Blue Origin's history but also highlighting previous challenges.

During subsequent launches, Blue Origin successfully put Mars-bound spacecraft into orbit and landed its booster stage on a drone ship. However, the fourth mission saw an upper stage failure, leading to the loss of a customer payload. With these setbacks in mind, Limp dismissed speculation that the company might proceed directly to the larger New Glenn variant for future launches.

Blue Origin has announced plans to change its approach to moving rockets to the launchpad and standing them up. The previous method involved using what was called a “transporter-erector,” but details about the new solution remain undisclosed.
