SpaceX's historic Initial Public Offering (IPO) just hit new heights, with the total amount raised reaching an astounding $85.7 billion. This massive raise came after the public offering’s underwriters exercised their option to purchase the maximum number of additional shares, making SpaceX's IPO not only the largest ever but also the first to exceed $80 billion.
Elon Musk's space and AI company initially raised $75 billion, already a record-breaking amount. With this new influx, SpaceX is now on track to become the most valuable privately held company in the world, with an estimated valuation of over $2 trillion.
Musk and his team have big plans for these funds. SpaceX intends to use the proceeds to:
- Pay off approximately $20 billion in legacy debt related to X (formerly Twitter) and Musk's AI company xAI, which were combined into SpaceX before the IPO.
- Expand its AI compute infrastructure significantly.
- Enhance its launch capabilities by improving existing facilities and building new ones.
- Improve Starlink services, aiming for better global internet coverage.
The company's stock began trading on the Nasdaq exchange this past Friday. By Monday’s close, SpaceX had not only surpassed the valuation of chipmaker TSMC but also pushed Musk to become the world's first trillionaire.
