In a significant milestone, Apple recently announced that its App Store facilitated over $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, marking a substantial increase from the $1.3 trillion reported last year at this time. This figure encompasses all business transactions conducted through apps on the platform, underscoring how it creates financial opportunities for mobile developers beyond just in-app purchases.
According to Apple, 90% of these $1.4 trillion transactions involved sales where developers didn't pay any commission. The breakdown further reveals that $1.1 trillion was generated from the sale of physical goods and services, while $149 billion came from billings and sales for digital goods, which are typically subject to a commission ranging from 15% to 30%. This year's figure is notably higher than last year’s reported $131 billion. Additionally, in-app revenue from ads hit $151 billion, up slightly from the previous year's $150 billion.
Apple emphasized the platform's global reach, noting that it saw over 850 million average weekly users across 175 countries and regions in 2025. The company highlighted the growing importance of AI apps, with 40 out of the top 100 apps featuring consumer-facing AI capabilities, showcasing stronger billing growth compared to others.
These updates come ahead of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where the tech giant is expected to unveil significant advancements in its ecosystem, including potential new features for developers and users alike. The company may also dive deeper into AI integrations across its operating systems, possibly with a major update for Siri.
