The notorious cybercrime group ShinyHunters has made headlines once again by claiming to have hacked Oracle PeopleSoft servers at over 100 organizations, with many being universities. This news comes from a ShinyHunters member's statement to TechCrunch and was first reported by BleepingComputer.
PeopleSoft is an enterprise software suite designed for managing payroll, human resources, administration, and other business operations. The hack highlights the ongoing threat of large-scale breaches in the tech industry. According to ShinyHunters, exfiltrated data includes sensitive information such as student records, which contain home addresses, phone numbers, emails, and dates of birth.
The group’s original goal was to compromise an FBI PeopleSoft server to deny involvement in a wave of swatting attempts the FBI flagged. However, this attempt did not succeed. Oracle has not commented on the matter as of yet.
