Foxconn Breached by Ransomware Hackers: Nitrogen Claims Responsibility

Ransomware group Nitrogen has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the massive electronics manufacturer Foxconn. Foxconn, known for producing devices and components for tech giants like Apple, Google, and Nvidia, confirmed that it was hit by a breach. According to Foxconn's statement, the attack affected factories in North America, but production has since resumed normally.

In their public post on a dark web leak site, Nitrogen revealed that they had stolen over 11 million files. These documents included confidential information from Foxconn's clients such as Apple, Dell, Google, Intel, and Nvidia. The hackers provided evidence by publishing images of product schematics, guidelines, and bank statements.

Nitrogen is a double-extortion ransomware group, meaning they both encrypt data to make it inaccessible and steal the files first. This strategy allows them to threaten to leak sensitive information if their demands are not met, giving them two avenues for financial gain.

Foxconn did not immediately respond to detailed questions about the attack. The company is taking steps to mitigate any potential long-term impacts on its operations and customer relationships.
