Apple fans have been eagerly waiting for the company’s entry into the foldable phone market, and it looks like they might not have to wait much longer. Hidden files found by researcher @M1Astra in iOS 27 developer beta hint that Apple could be set to release a foldable iPhone this fall.

The discovery of references to “foldState,” “mechanicalAngleDegrees,” “angleDegrees,” and “MGGetLogicalDeviceDisplayCount” within the code suggests that the software is prepared to handle a foldable device. This means that when Apple unveils its newest hardware in September, it might finally be time for consumers to see what the tech giant has been working on.

While Samsung and Huawei (which is banned in the U.S.) have had foldable phones on the market for over five years, Apple’s entry into this space will come with high expectations. The thickness of a foldable device could be key; after all, the allure of a second screen may not match the convenience of fitting a phone easily into one's pocket (especially if you’re wearing women’s clothing). However, as last year saw the introduction of the iPhone Air, which is only 5.6 millimeters deep, Apple has shown that it can make significant strides in condensing its devices.

The rumored foldable iPhone could sport two screens stacked together, potentially making it thinner than any Samsung foldable other than the newest two-screen model, the Galaxy Z Fold7. This would be a bold move for Apple to enter such an established market and demonstrate that they are not just following trends but creating something truly innovative.
